Public art in Los Angeles got a shot in the arm when professional French sculptor Pascal Giacomini decided the city could use more! The Hollywood-based sculptor approached the West Hollywood City Council about installing a public exhibit of contemporary large-scale abstract and figurative sculptures along the median strip spanning an area from La Cienega Blvd. to Doheny Blvd., and they gave him unconditional support. Soon thereafter, the median strip became a public art gallery for the millions of drivers that navigate through traffic on those streets every day. Well-known for his "why not?" attitude toward life, the artist became the catalyst for a formal, ongoing, modern public art program in the area.
Using metal, glass, copper, bronze, wood, resin, and found objects, the experienced sculptor (who moved to Los Angeles from France in the 1980s) has participated in many public art exhibits throughout southern California, including Malibu and outlying areas such as Palm Springs. The artist, whose tastes run from the classical to the primitive, is available to create sculptures on commission for corporations — large and small — for interior designers, set designers, and private clients. The sculptor's work (which includes many pieces for sale) can be viewed by appointment at Galerie Lakaye in Hollywood.
